The Madrona Project: Art in a Public Voice is a book containing over fifty full-color images with ekphrastic poems by renowned Northwest poets including these two. Washington State Arts Commission provided images for publication of some artworks in Washington’s State Art Collection that these poets chose to write about. Dr. Robert Michael Pyle, scholar, biologist, writer, and educator, honored for devotion to insect conservation, promotes public awareness and enjoyment of butterflies, and place-based literature. Abigail Prout, Lopez Island resident, is author of Walk Deep and winner of the 2021 Homebound Poetry Prize, 2022 Nautilus Prize, and Pushcart Prize nomination. Steve and Kristi Nebel are long-time Tacoma residents, locally known for their peace activism and music.
