Special Showing of Boys in the Boat Movie + Celebration of Anacortes Rowing History

December 30, 2023 @ 7:30 pm

Anacortes Cinemas

Join us for an unforgettable evening in the heart of Downtown Anacortes as we present a special showing of the new major motion picture, “The Boys in the Boat.” We will celebrate Anacortes’s connection to the true story of the UW rowing team that beat the odds and won gold over the German boat at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. One of the young men on the team was Don Hume, an AHS grad who honed his rowing skills in the Guemes Channel.

The evening will include the UW Rowing historian who consulted on “The Boys in the Boat” book, the Hume family, historical context from the Samish Canoe Family, interpretive panels from the Anacortes Museum and more. You’ll share in the pride our community felt for Don and his teammates–farmers, ship yard workers, and loggers–back in the day when an American win over a German crew was highly symbolic.

📅 Date: Saturday, December 30th
🕖 Showings: 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm
📍 Location: Anacortes Cinemas, Anacortes, WA
🎟️ Tickets: $50 each
