Skagit Bay Search and Rescue

Chamber Member

Skagit Bay Search and Rescue (SBSAR) is an all-volunteer, non-profit, 501(c)3 organization created under the auspices of the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office in 2002 and is the only dedicated marine search and rescue organization based in the county. Our response area encompasses 125 square miles and stretches from Sinclair and Vendovi Islands in the north to just north of Oak Harbor in Skagit Bay to the south. Historically based in La Conner, we have always been concerned about our response times to the north county, but have not had the resources to change that. We have finally recruited and trained enough Anacortes-based members to support an additional response unit, based in Anacortes, to serve the north county in a more timely fashion and are actively seeking community support to make this happen. We think that a dedicated search and rescue unit based in Anacortes is long overdue and will significantly enhance the enjoyment of waterfront activities in our wonderful community!
