If it’s genuine Northwest treasure you’re seeking, Skipper, pull out your chart and mark a course for Fidalgo Island on the first full weekend in June.
Whether it’s romance, entertainment or family adventure that floats your boat, make Anacortes, Washington your destination for a “swashbuckling” weekend of free activities in a seaside setting filled with music, mouth-watering aromas and eye-catching characters.
The Chamber of Commerce-sponsored Anacortes Waterfront is a sometimes boisterous celebration of marine heritage that pre-dates Seattle’s Seafair… the exciting schedule of events ranges from “tried and true” elements to new offerings.
“Hit the beach” at beautiful Cap Sante Marina and explore a treasure trove of options: two days of live Main Stage entertainment; delicious food and beverage vendors; free boat rides; educational booths; children’s activities (including handmade, take-home boats); remote control boat races; Coast Guard rescue demonstrations and the “Quick and Dirty Boat Demonstration” that draws hundreds to the docks for a wild, completely unpredictable competition.
Feeling the call for a brief sailboat or power boat excursion? Take advantage of the Anacortes Yacht Club’s invitation for a free outing on Fidalgo Bay.
Eager to partner with your child on a project destined to find a featured place in the family memory book? Gather your materials and build a boat, compliments of the Rotary Club.
Hungry? From kettle korn and cotton candy treats to grills producing full meals, food vendors offer tantalizing options. There is also a corner set aside for those eager to enjoy an adult beverage.
Want to weave some learning opportunities into fun activities? Stroll over to the Channel of Discovery, where displays range from model boats, to learning about our waterfront environment and forest land wildlife.
Between events, take a seat and enjoy the Main Stage with singers, musicians, dancers and magicians eager to entertain. From high school jazz band to barbershop choir, little ballerinas to “Shifty Sailors” with sea shanties, a line-up of entertainers brings its best from 10 a.m Saturday until festival closing at 5 p.m. Sunday.
