The distinctive soil and sun exposure at these mature vineyards are expressed in the unique character and bold, balanced flavors of Bacovino wines.

Bontzu Cellars

The story of the “Bontzu Cellars” name begins with my grandpa Jon Nicholas, a cobbler and a shoemaker who was the head of our family for more than 60 years. strong-willed, stubborn sometimes, he never backed down on his principles or work ethic. He guided our family through troubled times, keeping us together and protected from the vicissitudes of life as much as he could. everything I know I learned from him. By naming my winery after him, I wanted to reconnect to and continue to apply his basic, core principles: work hard, stay true to your mantra, follow your inner calling, look for quality first, and always let nature lead the way!

Estate-grown grapes from our three-acre vineyard produce most of our fine wines. Great wine begins in the vineyard. Sky River Mead

More Info

Sky River Mead

At Sky River, we have endeavored to reintroduce mead to the 21st century. With the help of Cornell University we have developed the ability to not only shorten the 6 month – 2-year fermentation/aging cycle, but also to create a consistently crisp, clean, and beautiful drink. All of this is done without the damage to the color and flavor of the honey brought about by heating. Through partnerships with regional beekeepers, we are able to secure the highest quality honey harvested, which are handled with tremendous care, from the bee to the bottle. This yields a Mead that retains the honeyed essence of its foundation – the floral nose, and the melon and tree fruit notes of the fruits that the flowers and pollen prelude.
