Anacortes Family Center

The Anacortes Family Center is our community’s only shelter, serving homeless women, children, and families with children in crisis

The Anacortes Family Center is our community’s only shelter, serving homeless women, children, and families with children in crisis. AFC is far more than just a shelter, with a unique approach that has led to the distinction as one of the most successful programs in Washington State at getting families out of homelessness within 60-90 days, with an over 80% success rate for the last eight years. AFC creates a unique case management plan for the entire household, providing services including strict budgeting, family counseling, life skill-building, and one-on-one in-school support for every child, in addition to a number of other programs. AFC works with our business community to provide rapid employment for adults in the household.

As a nonprofit, AFC runs on a lean budget to serve the nearly 350 clients they work with each year – more than half of whom are children. AFC relies on our community’s generosity to sustain the life-saving and transformative services they provide. AFC also utilizes volunteers and is always looking for more; volunteer opportunities include: mentoring children, teaching a life skills class, processing donations of food and clothing, or helping with odd jobs around AFC’s campus on 27th Street.
