An official event of the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, the display of work from more than 70 members of the Fidalgo Island Quilt Guild can be found up and down Commercial Avenue, the city’s main thoroughfare. Look for the hand painted tulip signs on shop windows that serve as your invitation to explore fine craftsmanship inside.
Pieced and appliqued handmade quilts, art quilts, and wearable art in styles that range from traditional to contemporary adorn the windows and walls of local shops, eateries, and businesses throughout the month.
And, should the show stimulate your own creativity, check out the city’s fabric, quilt, needlework, and yarn shops to get you started. Anacortes offers a wide range of shops to inspire new talent like In Stitches Quilt Shoppe and their enormous selection of quilting fabrics and classes for the beginner to the advanced quilter.
For a double header, head to Anacortes take in the First Friday Art Walk as well. Held each month at downtown Anacortes galleries and shops the Art Walk is a time for locals and visitors to casually explore the wealth of talented artists inspired by the grandeur of the Pacific Northwest.
